Bolton Easter Open

21 Apr, Rod Middleton reports. John Jarmany (Scarborough) was the surprise winner. Four of the leading GP leaders were competing and all finish at the top of the board. David Coates, with a modest score at Bolton, leads the GP by a healthy margin by virtue of his consistent participation in all Midlands GP congresses.

Staffs Open at Bloxwich

13 Apr, David Anderton reports. David Coates continues in the GP lead because only Anthony Hynes of his close pursuers, who made up a little ground and is now 3½ points behind, was playing at Bloxwich.

Nottingham Open

29 Mar, Neil Graham and Peter Sherlock report. David Coates (Lincoln) stalled in this event, but still retains the GP lead on 11½ points. He is pursued by Ali Jaunooby (Denton, GMC) on 9½ points, GM Mark Hebden (Leics) on 8½ points with Tony Hynes (Warks) and Alex Posazhennikov (W Nottingham) both on 7 points.

Warwickshire Open

3 Mar, Warks CA reporrts. Ameet Ghasi (Birmingham) won the Open, but David Coates (Lincoln) has an increased lead over Daniel Abbas (3Cs Oldham, GMC).

Leicester Atkins

1 Dec. David Coates continues to lead on 8, Ali Jaunooby is on 7, and GM Mark Hebden has joined the fray with his triumph at Leicester.

First results in from Worcester & Manchester

9 Sep. The only player to compete in both congresses held so far, David Coates, Lincoln, leads on 6 points.

This year, the Midlands GP includes the following standard play open events: Worcestershire Open (22-22 Jul); Manchester Autumn (31 Aug-1 Sep); HE Atkins Memorial Leicester, (29 Nov - 1 Dec); Warwickshire Open (2-3 Mar); and Nottingham Open (29-30 Mar); Staffordshire Open (12-13 Apr); Bolton Open (18-20 Apr) .
