12 Apr, Matthew Carr reporrts. David Anderton (Walsall) and Michael Townsend (Stafford) were first, but non-particpant, Joseph McPhillips remains in the lead..
5 Apr, Rod Middleton reports. Daniel Abbas and Andrew Horton (both 3 Cs, Oldham, GMC) were the highest scoring locals and Joseph McPhillips (Bolton) passes Tomasz Sygnowski (West Bromwich).
18 Mar. Tomasz Sygnowski (West Bromwich), winner at Walsall MCCU congress overtakes Joseph Mc Philips (Bolton, GMC)
1 Mar. Tomasz Sygnowski (West Bromwich) gets within striking distance as a result of his points at Warwick
28 Nov. Joseph retains his lead, but Donald Mason (Shirley & Wythall, Warks) is catching up.
31 Aug. The only player to compete in both congresses held so far, Joseph McPhillips (Bolton, GMC) leads.

This year, the Midlands GP includes the following standard play open events: Worcestershire Open (12-13 Jul); Manchester (29 Aug-31 Aug); HE Atkins Memorial Leicester ( 28-30 Nov); Shropshire Chess Congress at Telford (3 & 4 Jan); Warwickshire Open (28 Feb- 1 Mar); MCCU Congress at Walsall (14-5 Mar); Nottingham Open (18-19 Apr); Staffordshire Open (Apr, TBC); Bolton Easter (3-5 Apr); and Stockport (TBC).
