Match report based on Staffs website from Alan Thomason. The first result was an early draw for John Staniforth and Ianin Wilson on board one after 40 minutes play. John Day put Staffs in the lead ten minutes later with a knight fork netting the queen. Staffs made sure of the match after 3 hours play, and the final hour saw further Staffs wins from Peter Broomhall and Ben Zitha. A draw on board 9 took the score to 11 / 4 in Staffordshire's favour.  The remaining board 8 game was very exciting. Mike Groombridge (Staffs) had a two pawn advantage, but with two minutes remaining on the clock for both players, his king was unable to survive a massive onslaught from Gary White's (Shrops) queen and rook, supported by a huge light squared bishop on the long diagonal.
