EVENTS DIRECTOR’S REPORT

The main event which we run is the County Championships, and I have been fortunate in having the services of the only lady who has run the National Stages of this event and has allowed us to have the benefit of her experience.

The Grand Prix depends on the work of those sterling folk who organise local events, send the results in to Ray Collett who then makes sense of the results in a form which we can all understand. My thanks to him for that and for the website which allows us to keep track of what is happening as a matter of record with little or no comment.

The other aspect of my activities this year as been the Arbiters’ Training Course at Syston which attracted some 9 participants. I would like to congratulate those who passed. We did have a problem caused by communication with the person who marked the papers, which David Welch and I resolved in a satisfactory manner. The proposed course at Wall was cancelled because of the delay in obtaining the revised Laws of Chess.

This is my final report. I would like to thank all those who have helped, especially Julie and Ray. I will be available to help my successor, including providing the name of my shrink.

Any help requested will be forthcoming, but I intend to follow my usual rule of not criticising my successor in any public medium, and being available to help quietly.

Thanks for letting me be of service again to the MCCU.

Cyril
