Midlands players who are under eleven year old and who aim to represent England in junior international events should ask their parents to contact Ray Dolan, the MCCU Chief Executive.

By playing in the competitions hosted on this website you agree that your name, chess grade and your membership status with the English Chess Federation (ECF) may be published on this website for the purposes of recording the results of the competitions. You also agree that such information will be passed to the ECF, the governing body, for rating purposes, and published on their website.

  • Fri 24 Jan 2025. Birmingham & District Junior Chess League at Bishop Vesey’s GS, Lichfield Road, Sutton Trinity. 5pm to 7pm Under-14 School teams of 4 players and Open tournament.
  • Sat 1 Feb Warwick Junior Open at Bridge Sports Centre, Warwick schools Foundation, Banbury Road, Warwick CV34 6PL, starts 1pm, prize giving 6pm. Five rounds, time control 15 min + 10 seconds for your moves. Under-11 Open, u1000 and u600 sections and under-18 Open, u1400 and u1000 sections. Medals for players scoring 3 points and more.
  • Sat 1 Mar 2025. Nottinghamshire Primary Schools Chess Association Individual County Championships at Nottingham High Sch, NG1 4HH, 9:30am-4:15pm. For children in school years 2, 3, 4, and 5. Six rounds, time control 15 min + 10sec, Prize giving at about 4pm.
  • Sun 23 Mar, Coventry Junior Open at Meadow park school, Abbey Road, Coventry CV3 4BD, starts at 11 am, prize giving 4pm. Five rounds, time control 15 min + 10 seconds for your moves. Under-11 Open, u1000 and u600 sections and under-18 Open, u1400 and u1000 sections. Medals for players scoring 3 points and more.
  • Sun 29 Jun, Solihull Junior Open, at Light Hall School, Hathaway Road, Shirley B90 2PZ. Five rounds, time control 15 min + 10 seconds for your moves. Under-11 Open, u1000 and u600 sections and under-18 Open, u1400 and u1000 sections. Medals for players scoring 3 points and more.
