Published 17 September 2021 Results1 Sep. With over-the-board chess suspended because of the Covid-19 virus epidemic, the MCCU agreed to organise online county team competitions. There were two categories: open and under-1825 aligning with the categories established by the ECF for the national online county team competitions in the summer of 2020. 24 Sep. Only Greater Manchester, Shropshire and Worcestershire felt able to raise teams for online championship play. Manchester and Worcestershire played an evaluation trial match to test out the lichess platform, which players found satisfactory. All scheduled matches were played starting at 6:30pm on Saturdays using lichess and a time comtrol of 60 minute witrh 15 second increment per move. 10 Oct. Greater Manchester beat Worcestershire to become the first Midlands under-1825 champions. 17 Oct. Greater Manchester beat Shropshire in the open competition. 31 Oct. Manchester are first MCCU online county team champions. Greater Manchester beat Worcestershire. In both this and their first match, the Mancunians clearly outclassed their opponents. 14 Nov. Worcestershire won their first MCCU online team match beating Shropshire 8-4
