Match report. The day did not start smoothly for Worcestershire. Two of their top boards had to be rescued after their car broke down. Francis O’Gorman was the first Worcs winner. His opponent having moved his king to avoid a knight fork ended had his king skewered to his queen with a bishop check. The score went to and fro with Derby pulling ahead after wins in quick succession on boards .4 and 5. The tide turned  back in Worcs’ favour when junior Kyle Reed, who was material down but with more active pieces, played maturely inducing mistakes from his opponent to win. Ian Truscott (Worcs) also won.  An active bishop pair in a superior position did the damage.
