Incremental time control for MCCU inter-county competitions

Leicestershire delegates proposed that the MCCU inter-county competitions should be played with incremental time controls to match the ECF county final stages time limits.

Current (2018-9 season) rule

6. The duration of play in the Championship shall be not less than five hours and all games shall be played with clocks. Each player shall complete not less than forty moves in the first two hours on his clock. In the remaining grade restricted tournaments the duration of play shall be not less than four hours and each player shall complete not less than thirty six moves in the first one hour and a half on his clock. In all sections, the time to be added to the clocks for the quickplay finish shall be thirty minutes. If captains wish to agree different time controls, to include the use of digital clocks, with incremental time controls as an option, they may do so

Proposed rule for 2019-20 season

6. The duration of play in the Championship shall be not less than 40 moves in 110 minutes, plus a 25-minute quickplay finish, plus a 10-second increment per move from move 1. Where suitable digital clocks are not available, the entire match will be played with the time limit of 40 moves in 2 hours, plus a 30-minute quickplay finish.

In the remaining grade restricted tournaments the duration of play shall be not less than 36 moves in 85 minutes, plus a 25-minute quickplay finish, plus a 10-second increment per move from move 1. Where suitable digital clocks are not available, the entire match will be played with the time limit of 36 moves in 90 minutes, plus a 30-minute quickplay finish. If captains wish to agree different time controls they may do so.
